The HIT Lab is currently assisting in the evaluation of electronic health record systems under the ‘meaningful use’ guidelines so that physicians can receive federal reimbursement for their investment under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act. This includes studying what it means for an EHR system to be truly interoperable and how that interoperability will affect patient’s health and the healthcare system overall.  Other objectives include benchmarking the US e-health environment against that of other countries, as well as researching strategies for the implementation of disease-specific EHR systems.
