The HITLAB team is headed to the Big Easy next week for the 2013 HIMSS Annual Conference and Exhibition. The diversity and multitude of exhibitors this year are unparalleled and our team looks forward to learning about the most exciting innovators in healthcare.
Interoperability will be a massively important theme throughout the conference. We anticipate several companies will announce collaborations with the potential to revolutionize electronic health records. Dr. Eric Topol’s keynote should feature interesting predictions about the future of medicine and hospitals in the new era of ubiquitous digital tools and meaningful use.
The mHealth educational session track is a strong carry through from the mHealth Summit held in Washington, D.C. last January. We expect to see the continuation of key themes from the conference, such as successful mHealth pilot scaling and a domestic and global overview of current mHealth policies and challenges.
HITLAB is also particularly interested in sessions on incorporating information technology into the patient centered medical home, mobile and wireless use in hospitals, and patient-facing medical portals as these all integrate nicely into our current grant work and studies.
I’m fascinated by the promise of two sessions in particular: Mobile E-visits: Distributive Distribution to Bend the Healthcare Cost Curve and Can Start Up Change the System. HITLAB is driven by this type of innovative thinking and we look forward to engaging with thought leaders and change agents in these areas.
We will have delegates from HITLAB attending a diverse set of sessions, interacting with the exhibitors, and dropping in the new forums such as the Global Health Forum and the Innovation Symposium: The Science and Practice of Innovation.
Please follow us on twitter (@HITLABNYC) during the conference for updates from the delegates and don’t hesitate to reach out if you would like to join us for a session or meeting next week.
