MISSION
The goal of the HIT Lab is to improve the quality and accessibility of healthcare through technological innovation. Success in this endeavor rides on both rigorous research and advocacy for our findings and ideas. In order for our work to truly make an impact, it is crucial that we actively demonstrate the effectiveness of technological solutions in healthcare.
Part of this process involves reducing the communication gap between researchers and the world at large. Policy makers, especially, need to be provided with timely data in order to make accurate and effective decisions. Reducing the transaction time for healthcare information is a vital aspect of our mission plan, as is working with agents from academia, government, NGOs, law and business.
Finally, the HIT Lab works on a local scale to provide professional development and employment to neighborhood residents and the broader Columbia University community. We recognize our civil duty as an employer and maintain a symbiotic relationship with our staff and the other residents of the Washington Heights area. Improving the well being of the people in our community is a significant element in our overall mission as an organization.
