HITLAB is seeking a motivated individual with significant experience and deep expertise in health outcomes effectiveness research, to lead the HITLAB’s innovation research work stream (evaluation) as Director, Innovation Research. The evaluation work stream at HITLAB tests/validates digital health solutions for efficacy with studies that test simple usability all the way to device based clinical trials. HITLAB’s evaluation practice utilizes unique methodologies and frameworks that borrow from scientific research and practices and apply them to address real world healthcare challenges. The ideal candidate would have demonstrated leadership experience in a senior research role, with experience in designing technology based interventions, managing multiple teams, creating and overseeing budgets, data collection/analysis, customer and contract management, project management and report writing across different stakeholder groups including but not limited to foundations, non-profits, multilateral agencies, governments, pharmaceutical companies, startups, entrepreneurs, hospitals etc. The ideal candidate must have a passion for innovation in healthcare, strong writing skills and significant experience in managing/developing teams/people. The ideal candidate will have considerable experience in writing and winning new grants/projects and presenting and publishing in top tier journals and conferences.
The Director Innovation Research will be responsible for the following:
40% Research Design and Execution Leadership
The position incumbent will oversee the research design and execution for the evaluation practice. This will include providing leadership and oversight on designing digital health interventions, submission of protocols for review by Institutional Review Boards (IRB) and ensuring that the team has received all necessary skills, clearances and certifications to execute studies. It will be the position incumbent’s responsibility to monitor and manage budgets for all projects within the evaluation (research) work stream. The position incumbent will identify, adapt or design data collection tools for any given project. Where study participants are involved, the position incumbent will provide oversight of recruitment and enrollment. The position incumbent will provide oversight of quantitative and qualitative data analysis. The position incumbent will be responsible for overseeing, editing/reviewing final deliverables for the customer. Keeping the team motivated and ensuring timely deliverables will also be the position incumbent’s primary responsibility. The position incumbent will play a primary role in interfacing with customers, building relationships, keeping them informed on the progress of the studies and presenting final deliverables to them.
30% Grant Development
The position incumbent will be responsible for identifying funding opportunities and drafting proposals and budgets to secure the same. The position incumbent will also liaise with corporates and organizations that issue contracts or RFPs to ensure the grant proposal meets all relevant guidelines. HITLAB works with stakeholders across healthcare (foundations, non-profits, multilateral agencies, governments, pharmaceutical companies, startups, entrepreneurs, hospitals etc.) which requires leaders to be agile in their thinking and writing. The position incumbent will need to have stellar ability to envision and storyboard.
20% Organizational Leadership
The position incumbent will be responsible for working with the executive team to devise and implement strategy for the organization and the evaluation (research) service offering. The position incumbent will be responsible for maintaining productivity, effort utilization, and keeping morale high. The position incumbent will be required to contribute to the HITLAB’s parallel mission of professional development and mentorship for all staff members. The position incumbent will also be responsible for spearheading HITLAB initiatives instituted by the executive team and act as an educator and role model for others.
10% Publications and Presentations
Working with the HITLAB’s editor, the position incumbent will supervise the dissemination of all grant findings for peer-review/white papers/conference presentations. HITLAB strives to maintain a high-profile at national academic and government conferences and the position incumbent will ensure that high quality abstracts for posters and oral presentations are prepared and submitted on a regular basis.
- PhD or MPH in epidemiology / bioinformatics / biostatistics / biomedical research / health economics / computer sciences or any other related field.
- 10+ years of health outcomes effectiveness and user experience research (individuals with wet lab experience need not apply).
- Deep knowledge of digital health solutions combined with an interest in the field.
- Strong research skills- both quantitative and qualitative methods.
- Strong data analysis and presentation skills.
- Experience with effectively managing large budgets.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate qualitative and quantitative research results into reports and recommendations.
- High initiative and interpersonal skills, including the ability to engage collaboratively with all levels of personnel and work independently.
- Ability to comprehend and act on assignments of varying complexity.
- Strong knowledge of technology, including experience with Microsoft Office (especially Excel and Access), Statistical Software, Coding Software and Internet Research.
Salary: Commensurate with experience
