Meet the 2019 HITLAB World Cup Finalists Disrupting a $50B Industry

 

Women are the strongest drivers of healthcare decisions for their families, yet there has been a frustrating lack of technologies that cater to their specific needs. A shift is underway uncovering a market ripe for investment and impact.

With an industry poised to reach $50B by 2025, femtech was an obvious theme for the 2019 HITLAB World Cup Challenge. In two short weeks, we saw over 100 individuals apply with concepts ranging from fertility to mental health solutions. The diverse applicant pool represented teams at the forefront of fulfilling or mitigating the unmet needs of women.

The five finalists will present live on May 21 at Pitch Day (SAP Hudson Yards) for the chance to win a total prize pool valued at up to $46K.

Babyscripts is a virtual care platform for obstetrics that allows OBGYNs to deliver a new model of prenatal care. The platform is powered by a suite of mobile apps that drive better patient decision making, internet-connected devices for remote monitoring, and a host of population health tools to give providers access to patient data in real time.

Jessie, backed by Cedars-Sinai and Techstars, is an on-demand digital clinic for women that streamlines access to today's leading virtual care services through personalized navigation and support.

Norka Health is launching a supplemental insurance policy to bring fertility and infertility coverage to the $4B US employer market that currently has no family planning program. Our product is more than just an insurance policy: we are reinventing the confusing patient experience and providing benefits to single parents and LGBTQ+.

Skye offers a revolutionary smartphone-linked medical device (Curv) to treat urinary incontinence and improve overall pelvic health. Based on scientific research, Curv provides women with an effective alternative to absorbent undergarments (which do not solve the underlying problem) and surgery (which is typically reserved for only the most severe cases).

Univfy combines machine learning, artificial intelligence and fintech to significantly improve the experience of fertility patients, increase success rates and make highly effective treatment affordable to more women and couples.
