Heuristic Evaluation of the VitalTracer Pediatric Monitoring Platform

VitalTracer is an innovative pediatric monitoring solution designed to enable continuous and accurate tracking of vital signs, particularly for oncology patients. Unlike traditional monitoring systems that may overlook critical fluctuations, VitalTracer provides real-time data collection to support early detection and timely intervention by healthcare professionals.

This heuristic evaluation, conducted by HITLAB, assessed the design, functionality, and ease of use of the VitalTracer platform from the perspective of typical end users, specifically pediatric oncologists. Utilizing Jakob Nielsen’s 10 usability heuristics alongside a cognitive walkthrough, the study simulated real-world tasks such as patient monitoring, data analysis, and clinical decision-making.

The evaluation revealed several strengths, including an intuitive user interface, comprehensive vitals display, and well-structured patient profiles that facilitate rapid clinical assessment. Opportunities for enhancement were also identified, such as implementing robust security features like two-factor authentication and improving navigation with advanced search and filtering, particularly important as patient volumes scale. Overall, the VitalTracer platform presents a strong foundation for pediatric health monitoring. Addressing the identified usability challenges will be crucial to fully realizing its potential for both clinical and at-home care settings.
