Healthcare affordability is a major issue in the U.S., with many Americans struggling to cover basic medical expenses, often leading to delayed or foregone treatment. According to the Commonwealth Fund 2024 Biennial Health Insurance Survey, nearly 26 million Americans—9 percent of the U.S. population—were uninsured in 20231. While the Affordable Care Act (ACA) has significantly reduced the uninsured rate, notable coverage gaps remain2. Among those insured throughout the year, 23 percent reported to be underinsured, meaning their plans failed to provide affordable access to necessary medical services.
