Digital health interventions (DHIs) are health services delivered electronically through formal or informal care. DHIs can be used for a wide range of services such as facilitated health promotion communication, electronic medical records used by providers, or mobile health apps used by consumers. Ultimately, DHIs are used to achieve certain health objectives. During the COVID-19 outbreak, digital health interventions began to gain popularity and attention, as it offered solutions to pressing healthcare issues caused by the pandemic. In a HITLAB (Health Innovation Technologies Lab) Virtual Town Hall presented by Information Mediary Corp. (IMC), a group of expert panelists, discussed the importance of digital health interventions for patients and physicians in the age of COVID-19.

NEW YORK CITY—HITLAB and AARP Innovation Labs invite startups across the country to apply for the 2021 Social Connections Challenge, now through June 20. The Challenge seeks digital innovations that aim to combat loneliness and social isolation, an issue that affects many adults as they age. Eight finalists will be selected to pitch to a panel of judges on July 15 for their chance to win runner-up prizes of $5,000 and $10,0000 HITLAB sponsorships. The grand prize winner will have the opportunity to compete in AARP Innovation Labs’ 2021 Grand Pitch Finale and consideration to become a member of AARP’s startup portfolio.

Social Connections Challenge
Innovators and startups are encouraged to apply between May 17 and June 20. The eight finalists will be announced on June 30. Finalists will participate in a mentorship bootcamp during the week of July 5 led by HITLAB Fellows and digital health experts.
